The sole album from a Croatian band from the early Nineties, who played a Motörhead-influenced brand of punky hard rock with lyrics mostly about drinking. A nice little release, although there was another band competing for the title of "Croatian Motörhead" during the same time period, who even had a great version of "Ace of Spades" with lyrics in Croatian, and whom I liked better - they were called Klajbas and came from the town of Krizevci. Teh Internets are unfortunately ignorant of their existence, and I'd very much like to share their album here, so if anyone happens to have it, hook me up! I've lost my tape years ago, sadly.

Motörhead - Live in Ljubljana 10.12.2012.
This was my sixth time watching the best band in the world, and probably the second best one of all. The first one, in Pula in 2002, is still untouchable, lasting for two and a half hours and completely destroying my hearing; but this one finally broke my unlucky streak with them: Zagreb 2006 - too quiet; Dublin 2009 - Lemmy lost his voice and nearly quit the show early, instead choosing to let Phil Campbell and the singer from the opening act (Nasty Savage) to sing in his place; Munich 2010 and 2011 - humongous concrete hall with terrible sound and standing 500 m away from the stage (And to add insult to injury, one of them didn't even feature Mikkey Dee - Matt Sorum from the Cult replaced him because he was IN A REALITY SHOW. Oh, the things we forgive the people we love!). This time in Ljubljana, I was finally able to see and hear the band properly, and although the show was half the length of that first one (they even cut one song from the already short setlist - granted, it was "Doctor Rock", my least favourite Motörhead song - but even that one is way better than nothing at all!), it was still excellent. Perhaps Lemmy wanted to get the fuck out of Tivoli hall as quickly as possible - if you're versed in Motör-lore, you'll know that he had the worst show of his career at this very venue 24 years ago, when an incredibly mean and stupid member of the audience threw a razor fixed to a coin on him, cutting his arm badly and making the band cancel the entire tour - that show being the first one. No wonder they placed Ljubljana as the last show this time, then. I will too hold a grudge against Tivoli after this show - this 7000-capacity hall has ONE set of toilets, which was so overcrowded that even before the show, when less than half the audience was in the hall, it would take 15 minutes just to take a piss. I happen to have an issue with drinking alcohol and pissing, meaning that I really NEED to get pissed when I, well, get pissed. Luckily for me, the hall doesn't have a cloakroom, either; and the combination of a long winter coat and plastic beer glasses does wonders in the hands of a capable engineer. But I digress...
Here, then, is a rather high quality (for audience taping) recording of this show, which won't replace any of the official Motörhead live albums in your collection, but will make a nice souvenir if you've been there; plus there's a great, otherwise unavailable Thin Lizzy cover in the encore. I've separated all the prolonged cheering and stage banter into skippable tracks because some of the audience members are incredibly irritiating during the quiet parts, and I didn't want to cut anything; listen to them at least once so that you can enjoy such charming Lemmyisms as "This next song is from 1916. The record, not the year." In hoping for many more years of seeing this one-of-a-kind band, I leave you with the download link...

The Loudmouths & Hot Rod Honeys - Split 7"
Here's a fun lo-fi garage punk split single by the Hot Rod Honeys from Belgium, and the Loudmouths from some place or other. The Honeys' side features a cover by the wonderful Johnny Moped, and the Loudmouths' side another one by the Dayglo Abortions. It won't change your life but it's a nice enough single, and I happen to have two more LP's by the HRH's so if anyone out there is a fan, maybe you'll be happy to see them featured here in the next few days.

The Devil Dogs - Live at the Revolver Club
Subtitled "The Greatest Rock'n'Roll Album You'll Never Hear!", this short and sweet live LP seems designed to be obscure - I just don't know whether it's a reference to a particularly limited pressing, or to a world that has been indifferent towards the Ramones for twenty years, so how much attention could the Devil Dogs expect? For those who don't know, and sadly there's too many of them, this band has been one of the starters of the Nineties' garage punk explosion, sharing seven-inchers with the likes of the New Bomb Turks (who idolized them, and deservedly so!), writing a shitload of incredible rock'n'roll tunes and releasing them on beautifully illustrated LP's and singles every decent household should own (I myself only have the "Big Beef Bonanza!" mini-album on vinyl, but I live in the third world so I'm excused). Of all the Crypt-and-related bands of this time period, I have always thought the Devil Dogs and Teengenerate to be the two most fun, exuberant and life-affirming ones; Teengenerate were usually more roughly recorded and produced, while the Devil Dogs were a more professional-sounding affair (well, in Crypt terms, at least!). This record however, and I don't know whether it's due to the original recording or the vinyl-to-mp3 conversion some kind soul has done, is much more harsh, loud and clipped than the Dogs usually sound, more in the Teengenerate territory, and I really don't know why I am even writing this because it really doesn't matter at all. The Devil Dogs are great any way you can hear them, but as this rip I'm posting is a lot truer to the original LP than the one available elsewhere (who encodes a rare record in 128 kb/s?! that's just mean!), I'd recommend it anyway.

Lazy Cowgirls - The Singles
Unfortunately the retarded Blogger interface has managed to destroy my original post for this band, and I don't feel like writing again, so here is just the music - most of their non-album output, including a four song demo for the "Ragged Soul" LP (my favourite of theirs) and a couple of live sessions. The split single with Dicky B. Hardy from Slovenia is added as a separate download, because the recording of "Not a Goddamn Thing" that appears on it is the same one as on the "Rank Outsider" LP.

Sonny Vincent's Shotgun Rationale - Cocked
Sonny Vincent was the singer and guitar player for the New York punk rock band The Testors back at the tail end of the '70s, a participant in the original CBGBs/Max's Ramones-Television-Talking Heads scene, who never got a break in the mainstream - not even the punk rock mainstream these bands had created. Unstable lineups, disagreements with record companies, rock'n'roll lifestyle and jail time had all affected his unfortunate career, although his music alone should in my opinion be considered nothing less than classic. The Testors' material (mostly unreleased during the band's tenure) has been compiled several times over the years, most recently by Swami Records on an amazing double-CD/double-LP compilation which is still in print, meaning you really should buy it. After the break-up of the Testors he has led a long solo career, playing with probably every great punk rock musician ever (they are too numerous to list here, but we're talking members of the Velvet Underground, the MC5, The Stooges, The Dead Boys, The Voidoids, Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, The Devil Dogs, The Damned, Television, Black Flag, Rocket from the Crypt, Sonic Youth, The Lazy Cowgirls, Dumbell, etc., etc.), and released a number of albums on various record labels, some still in print, some not. This CD came out back in 1995 on a German label whose name is on the back of the CD case which is all the way on the opposite side of the room, but anyway, it's not in print anymore and you can only find it second hand, and with a hefty price, too. I couldn't find it on blogs or torrents either, so I'm uploading it here for your potential enjoyment. The material is two thirds re-recordings of old Testors tunes, with great playing and sparkling clean production, and one third then-new songs written for the then-current band. It varies from poppy ballads to almost hardcore scorchers, and is in my opinion one of his most consistent collections. Download it below and then go to Interpunk.com, type "Testors" in the little search box and buy the Swami compilation and/or the more encompassing 1972-2002 anthology which covers almost his whole career.

Red Aunts - SFTRI Picture 7"
The Red Aunts were a wonderfully ramshackle female punk rock quartet who released five full length LP's during their existence, the second and third of which ("Bad Motherfucken 40 o-z" and "#1 Chicken") are absolutely essential if you like this kind of stuff. This seven incher was released on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label in 1993 and contains four exclusive tracks, the first of which is a Clash cover. It is now out of print but you can (and should) find it on eBay for a not-too-ridiculous price, however here is the MP3 version if you're not into vinyl gravedigging.

New Bomb Turks - The Biggest Combo
Most of the New Bomb Turks' early singles and compilation appearances are collected on the incredible "Pissing Out the Poison" compilation. Most of their final non-album material is collected on the rather good "Switchblade Tongues, Butterknife Brains" compilation. But only some of the material released between those two eras is compiled on the rather shitty "Big Combo" disc, which included a fraction of the rare stuff, alongside readily available album tracks. I had this CD, hated it, and finally sold it. So this is an improved version, which contains all the exclusive tracks from it, mixed with an abundance of other singles, covers and live recordings, and even some early stuff that "Pissing Out the Poison" omitted. I couldn't be bothered to list sources for all the tracks - there are plenty of discography sites which you can consult for that info - but roughly, this is the breakdown:
Disc 1: (mostly) chronologically arranged single tracks, compilation tracks and covers, topped off with a few live covers taken from bootlegs.
